The CN-SBS Research Project will conduct a comparison and analysis of the embodied energy in a typical steel building system and a comparable heavy timber framed building to determine how a steel building compares in terms of its embodied energy.
The project will also compare other aspects of the two buildings such as: ease of construction, material optimization, connections, ease of deconstruction, recyclability, etc.
The case study building will be located in Cambridge, Ontario and have these characteristics:
